ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN THE DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY AT THE CITADEL
The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, Department of Chemistry invites applications for a tenure-track position in biochemistry, inorganic chemistry, or physical chemistry at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 2025. The Chemistry Department offers American Chemical Society-approved B.S. degrees in Chemistry and Biochemistry as well as a B.A. in Chemistry. The department is comprised of 8 tenure/tenure track faculty, several adjunct instructors, and two staff members. The department is highly committed to undergraduate research for all students. The Citadel supports faculty scholarship through internally-funded research, development, and travel grants. Salary and fringe benefits are competitive.

2300 undergraduate students comprise the South Carolina Corps of Cadets. From the Corps of Cadets, one out of three graduates earn a miliary commission. Students can choose from 31 majors and 57 minors. The 11:1 student-to-faculty ratio guarantees students a quality education. Another 1000 students, including MBA students, attend programs in the nonresidential Citadel Graduate College.
Position Responsibilities:
The primary teaching responsibility of the successful candidate will be courses in the field of expertise and general chemistry for STEM majors. The faculty member will also be expected to offer classes in the college’s General Education program. Other responsibilities include mentoring students through advising and undergraduate research, participating in curriculum revision, and creating new courses. The candidate is expected to achieve and maintain scholarly productivity consistent with departmental and college-wide policy for tenure and promotion.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants should possess an earned doctorate in one of the areas of biochemistry, inorganic chemistry, or physical chemistry.
