The Citadel’s Department of Leadership Studies invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track faculty member for the position of Assistant Professor of Leadership Studies with a start date of Fall 2027. 

This new faculty member will join the Krause School of Leadership and Ethics team that opened on July 1, 2026. The Krause School of Leadership and Ethics (KSLE) is The Citadel’s sixth academic school and its most significant academic expansion in recent history. Rooted in the institution’s core mission to develop principled leaders, KSLE formalizes decades of leadership education into a dedicated academic home— bringing together the Department of Leadership Studies, the Krause Center for Leadership Development and Executive and Professional Education under one umbrella. The school was made possible by the generous support of Bill and Gay Krause, whose transformative gift funded renovation of the facility.

The mission of the Department of Leadership Studies is to enhance the ability of students from any academic background to perform effectively as principled leaders in their present or future leadership roles.

The Leadership Studies Department offers general education leadership courses, an undergraduate minor in leadership studies, a Master of Science leadership as well as graduate certificates in leadership and military leadership at the graduate level.  Teaching faculty serve on department and college committees.  

 Minimum Qualifications:

• Qualified applicants will have a completed a terminal degree at a regionally accredited university in an area well-grounded in leadership theory and related to leadership studies.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Research stream or interest in leadership theory, ethical leadership, nonprofit leadership, or military leadership
• Understanding and experience with different instructional pedagogies.
• Expertise teaching graduate students in an online environment.
• Post-doctoral experience with a demonstrated track record of peer-reviewed publications.
• Practical leadership experience in professional or community-based leadership roles.
