Job Responsibilities:

The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina is seeking a Patrolman in our Office of Public Safety.  This role will be responsible for the following:

  • Performs patrol duties; controls traffic and parking.
  • Provides emergency response, investigates criminal activities, investigates vehicle and other accidents, secures crime scenes, makes arrests, takes statements, issues moving and parking traffic citations, prepares incidents and accident reports, and complies with emergency action plans and checklists.
  • Responsible for reviewing and updating information electronically to record, organize and compile needed information for reports.
  • Maintains radio and telephone communications; monitors performance of department radios and insures batteries; chargers and the base station are maintained. Insures departmental communications directives are current.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Must have a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice OR High School/GED diploma. If not already certified, must have the ability to achieve certification through the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. Must maintain Firearms qualification. Must possess a current South Carolina Driver's License. Must maintain a high level of confidentiality and must maintain a close relationship with command staff of Public Safety. The exercise of considerable initiative, independent judgment, and discretion and confidentiality while dealing with visitors, requests for information, and general public relations activities is paramount. The employee is expected to exercise initiative in keeping informed of all local, state and federal laws in addition to policies, rules, and regulations performing under minimal supervision. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 Police experience or comparable military or related experience.
