Position Summary

The Citadel’s Zucker Family School of Education invites applications for a tenure-track Associate Professor of Education position specializing in STEM Teacher Education. Special consideration will be given to applicants with computer science education and a STEM education Discipline (e.g., science education or mathematics education) background, beginning August 2027.

We seek candidates with a commitment to working collaboratively with faculty and staff to prepared and to support K-12 STEM teacher candidates that integrate computational thinking/computer science/disruptive technologies into their content area classrooms in South Carolina. Candidates contributing to our school’s mission are encouraged to identify their experiences in their cover letter.

This position also comes with a directorship for the Anita Zucker Institute for Entrepreneurial Educational Leadership in the STEM Center. The director will manage daily operations, scheduling, relationship building, and student support. Candidates for this position will show strong leadership, budgeting, verbal and written communication, and problem-solving skills.

The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and graduate STEM education and computer science education programs. Candidates must demonstrate a record of, or potential for, scholarly activity, including peer-reviewed publications, presentations, and securing external grant funding. Additional responsibilities include student mentorship through advising and collaborative undergraduate research and contributions to the life of the school, college, and profession.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

• An earned doctorate from an accredited university in teacher education, curriculum and instruction, computer science education, teaching and learning, or related field; an established record of research work in STEM teacher education; demonstrated success as a 6-12 teacher and/or 6-12 certified professional; ability to collaborate with local P-12 school districts; and commitment to preparing professional educators to work in a variety of school environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Teaching skills that employ a variety of instructional strategies in both face-to-face and online environments.
• At least 3 years of experience teaching in a public school
