THE CITADEL FOUNDATION

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Assistant Director of Annual Giving, Young Alumni and Leadership Gifts has responsibility for the design and implementation of successful young alumni programs and volunteer opportunities. The individual will work collaboratively with Advancement partners to manage young alumni volunteers and activities, design young alumni-focused programs and events, and identify potential young alumni volunteers and donors. They will work closely with the Director to develop strategy and vision for young alumni programs and volunteers to enhance our pipeline of engaged alumni and donors.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES INCLUDE:

Solicitation of Leadership Gifts

  • Oversee and maintain the engagement of a large pool of leadership annual giving supporters ($1,000+) for The Citadel. Actively cultivate relationships with those individuals who reveal themselves to be consecutive and leadership donor prospects.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate specific strategies to increase membership, ensuring strong retention, along with effective marketing for Leadership Annual Giving Society for upgrades and acquisition.

 

Young Alumni Initiatives

  • Oversee and maintain the engagement of a large pool of young alumni leadership annual giving supporters for The Citadel. Actively cultivate relationships with those individuals who reveal themselves to be consecutive and leadership donor prospects
  • Manage the Young Alumni Council to include yearly strategic goals, monthly meetings, Philanthropy Education Week, and serving as liaison between The Citadel and The Citadel Foundation as it pertains to young alumni
  • Identify, cultivate and steward young alumni prospects through an engagement plan to increase young alumni involvement in The Foundation
  • Curate young alumni engagement opportunities ranging from professional development, reunions, homecoming tailgates, regional happy hours, etc.

Class Chair Program

  • Assist and support Class Chairs representing classes 15 years since graduation with requests that aid in their fundraising efforts including face to face visits with each chair and classmates as necessary.  Provide necessary materials, reports, and tools and at the chair’s discretion
  • Work with individual class chairs to set class monetary and participation class goals and determine plan to reach goals annually
  • Coordinate and process biannual Class Chair letters.  Work with direct mail house vendor to process all letters
  • Coordinate efforts for mini-reunion fundraising campaigns as necessary

 

10th Reunion Campaigns

  • Develop a comprehensive fundraising strategy and goals, including targeted appeals, peer-to-peer fundraising for 10th reunion classes and their committees
  • Recruit passionate alumni to serve on their reunion committee and foster a collaborative effort to fully engage their classmates
  • Find potential donors and solicit gifts that best align with their philanthropic interests
  • Serve as main point of contact for reunion classes throughout the two-year fundraising cycle and post reunion

 

Other:  Perform additional duties as assigned to include special projects to assist in the overall fundraising efforts within the Annual Giving unit. Evening and weekend work is required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education / advanced degree preferred
  • Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Enthusiasm and excellent people skills are essential. Successful candidate must have flexibility to handle the needs of a fast-paced work environment and the special needs of donors.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and to lead and motivate others, especially students, alumni, and volunteers
  • Familiarity with and affinity for The Citadel and its mission, including its core values of honor, duty and respect

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • At least three years of experience in related development/fundraising, preferably within higher education
  • Experience with Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge, GiveCampus and Evertrue
  • Knowledge of personal computer-based software (i.e. word processing and spreadsheet applications)
  • A history of innovative solutions to marketing challenges
  • Experience motivating large groups of hourly employees
  • Considerable knowledge of statistical analysis, project management and database management
  • Additional experience in fundraising, public relations, and/or marketing
