Job Responsibilities:
The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina is seeking applicants for a Student Advisor/Coordinator in the Tommy and Victoria Baker School of Business (BSB). The successful candidate assumes responsibility for all aspects of academic advising and counseling for BSB undergraduate students. As such, the advisor must be able to work independently with relatively little supervision.
Specific duties include but are not limited to the following:
- advising students on issues related to academic progress, course selection, major selection, and other curriculum issues
- ensuring compliance with program requirements by monitoring and auditing student’s schedules and grades
- providing training to faculty members on issues related to academic advising
- developing and maintaining current curriculum maps for all BSB majors and minors
- create academic schedules for incoming freshman cadets during the summer, prior to fall matriculation
- delivering workshops on resume writing, interviewing, and other practical business skills;
- coordinating with the Citadel Career Center to promote internships and job placements; participate in career fairs, and develop effective resumes
- promoting experiential learning opportunities and study abroad programs
- advising and counseling students about financial aid and scholarships
- developing standardized processes and procedures for the academic advisement of undergraduate business students
- maintaining confidential records and reports for AACSB accreditation
- meeting with prospective students and parents regarding BSB programs
- advertising employment positions, internships, and scholarships to undergraduates
As part of the administrative leadership team, the advisor also assists with special programs and projects such as BSB Advisory Board meetings, the annual Hall of Fame program, and the Mentor's Association and performs liaison with various faculty committees.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required. Experience in student advising or student services programs required. MS Office suite skills required. Knowledge of or experience with student development and education administration. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff, and the general public. Must have excellent communication and organizational skills. Personal discretion, judgment, and self-direction are essential. Some after-hours work will be required in connection with special events.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree, ideally a M.Ed. or M.A. in Counseling, preferred.
