Job Responsibilities:

The Citadel’s Department of Political Science is seeking applicants to fill part-time temporary adjunct teaching positions starting in August 2025.  Duties may include teaching undergraduate courses or online graduate courses in international relations, comparative politics, and regional area studies. Undergraduate courses are offered during the day in face-to-face format throughout the academic year (fall, spring, and summer); Graduate courses are offered online.  All adjunct positions are part-time, temporary, and per session appointments.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Abiding by and upholding the Citadel’s mission, policies, and core values.  Utilizing effective teaching and learning practices such as presentations, demonstrations, class discussion, and other appropriate modes of instructional delivery; preparing course outlines and syllabi in accordance with program standards and in collaboration with the program coordinator. Completing student assessments required for program completion; hosting weekly office hours; meeting all scheduled class periods. Being available to students for individual consultation; submitting midterm grades for Corps students; recording class absences for Corps students and submitting final grades by the specified due date. The Citadel requires faculty to submit midterm grades for undergraduate students. The Citadel requires faculty to use the Attendance and Class Absence System to document class attendance for undergraduate students.

Minimum Qualifications:

A J.D.  or an M.A. in political science is required to teach undergraduate Political Science courses and Doctorate Degree in Political Science or Law is required to teach graduate Political Science courses. Excellent written and oral communication skills.  Exceptional interpersonal and collaboration skills. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Prefer past experience in government and military.
