The Citadel, The Military College is seeking an internal candidate for a Zone Maintenance Supervisor.  As supervisor of the Zone Maintenance shop the primary duties shall include supervision of maintenance technicians to perform skilled duties in the routine maintenance and repair of commercial buildings to maintain integrity and prolong the useable life span of these buildings. In addition to this responsibility, this role will be required to handle the following:

  • Plans, organizes, schedules, monitors and evaluates trade activities.
  • Procures equipment and materials for assigned projects following established procurement guidelines.
  • Maintains contact with building and department representatives.
  • Reviews work efforts to ensure good construction practices are being followed and quality standards are being met.
  • Maintain records on inventories and work orders.
  • Assists with compilation of data, prepares reports, summaries and budgets.
  • Maintain the records of employees’ time, work orders and perform periodic inspections of past and present projects.
  • Assists with new hire screening process, selects and provides on-the-job training for trades personnel.
  • Assists with the employees’ performance evaluation, council and reprimand employees as required.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

A high school diploma or GED and supervisory experience with a background in commercial and or residential construction, remodeling and repairs. Must have knowledge of commercial or heavy construction trade and repair techniques such as metal stud framing, hang drywall, finish drywall, minor electrical repairs, minor plumbing repairs, carpentry repairs, painting, acoustic ceiling grid/tile repairs and other related construction techniques. Incumbent must be able to instruct skilled technicians in applying these principles to repairs/remodeling, maintenance and new construction. Must be skilled in the use of hand, power tools and associated construction equipment. Must be capable of interpreting site plans and blue prints. Incumbent must be skilled with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook or similar programs. Must be able to send and respond to email and must be able to communicate effectively (witten and oral) with a wide range of customers, technicians, and contractors. Valid South Carolina driver’s license required. Must be able to work computer. Must be customer oriented, able to interface with various levels of personnel from trade workers to Vice Presidents.  Must have full use of all extremities and be able to stoop, kneel, bend and work from ladders, scaffolding, roofs and multi structured buildings. Must have the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds a minimum distance of 50 feet and work in confined spaces and in areas that may be poorly ventilated. Work conditions may require working in adverse weather and varying temperatures. Some night and weekend work will be required.
