Job Responsibilities:
The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, is seeking an applicant for the Marketing Strategist for Enrollment role on campus. Reporting to the Associate Provost for Enrollment Management, the Marketing Strategist for Enrollment leads the execution of The Citadel’s content strategy, including strategy development and writing content that drives awareness, increases engagement and traffic, shares The Citadel brand story, and increases conversion and enrollment. The position works closely with the Associate Provost for Enrollment Management to implement a strategic content communications plan for The Citadel.
The position will collaborate with various internal stakeholders to develop content and will help execute The Citadel’s marketing campaigns and strategies. The Marketing Strategist for Enrollment will follow best marketing practices, focusing on traditional and post-traditional learners in higher education, and align with The Citadel’s core values: honor, duty, and respect.
Content Strategy
- Create strategic marketing messaging and campaigns across the student enrollment lifecycle.
- Develop and deploy high-impact content that drives awareness, increases engagement, and achieves strategy objectives, e.g., increasing enrollment.
- Develop and execute a high-impact email communication strategy.
- Leverage industry best practices, competitive analysis, user feedback, and analysis of performance metrics.
- Collaborate with enrollment leadership to create dynamic, engaging campaigns that are timely, accurate, and effective.
Creative Development and Execution
- Works within The Citadel’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools, Slate, to help build and deliver effective and dynamic digital communication campaigns and events using a combination of HTML, CSS, and CRM tools.
- Design journeys and content narratives for prospective students that drive successful enrollment campaigns.
- Develop compelling stories and messages that attract and grow audience engagement that align with The Citadel brand standards and communication style guidelines.
- Understand segmentation and differentiate tactics/messaging for various personas.
- Ensure the accuracy of all content produced and alignment with The Citadel brand.
Website Support and Content Writing
- Support departments across campus in managing and improving their citadel.edu sites.
- Meet with subject matter experts to write program-specific content for student recruitment, including undergraduate, graduate, and transfer, which includes traditional and post-traditional learners.
- Proactively monitor The Citadel website to find and address issues.
- Edit written pieces produced by internal stakeholders.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrated success at writing creative, compelling, and action-inducing content aligned with brand voice.
- Understanding of sales-oriented messaging and effective content strategies at different stages of the prospective and current student lifecycle.
- Skilled communicator who can promote the university’s recruitment and enrollment brand to diverse audiences across the student life cycle.
- Knowledge of content best practices, including leveraging SEO and UX.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and effectively prioritize in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- An impeccable eye for detail, proofreading and editing skills, and ability to consistently meet deadlines.
- Goal-oriented, entrepreneurial, and self-starter who can effectively work independently.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, or a related field.
- 2-3 years of writing /content strategy experience
- Experience with Slate CRM, Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, and Email Marketing Software.
- Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work efficiently and collaboratively as part of a small team as well as independently
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in marketing, journalism, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of writing/content strategy with higher education
- Experience in a data-driven work environment
