Job Responsibilities:

The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina is seeking a Lab Technologist I in the Emmett Davis Department of Civil, Environmental and Construction Engineering.  Under limited supervision, individual  plans, coordinates, and in administers day-to-day operation of the Dept. of Civil, Environmental and Construction Engineering laboratories and other building facilities. In addition to the day-to-day operations this role will be responsible for the following:

  • Provide technical support, operational direction, and supervision for engineering students during use/operation of laboratory equipment and completion of special projects, while working under academic directives of engineering faculty.
  • Procure, receive, organize and maintain records of operational inventory of Civil, Environmental and Construction Engineering components, equipment, operation/procedure manuals, affiliated software, and material safety data sheets (MSDS).  Duties also include trouble shooting equipment repairs/maintenance, vendor communications, ordering replacement parts/ components, and obtaining laboratory supplies as needed.
  • Secure, dismantle and store testing equipment after completion of laboratory exercises, educational experiments, and special student projects, as required; additionally coordinate/manage laboratory cleanup and housekeeping with students, faculty and custodial services. 
  • Work with Department Head to ensure compliance with The Citadel Safety Policies including, but not limited to: maintaining record of MSDS, disposal of hazardous materials, compliance with Department Chemical Hygiene Plan, provision of required laboratory safety equipment, administration of student lab safety agreements, and serving in position of Department Chemical Hygiene Officer.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs , as required, for all assigned laboratory equipment testing materials, and supplies.  Coordinate fabrication/construction of laboratory equipment and testing apparatus as needed.
  • Addresses and respond to requests from Dean of the School of Engineering and other departments whenever possible to include support of other lab technicians, staff and collaborative instructional/educational initiatives.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

An associate degree or equivalent technical training in electronics technology AND work experience in a laboratory environment; OR a high school diploma and 3+ years experience in a laboratory environment. Must possess knowledge of electronics, operation of testing equipment and testing procedures. The employee will receive limited supervision and would be expected to function independently in their actions with regard to operating and maintaining laboratory equipment and serving in their role as Departmental liaison to a wide range of stakeholders.
