Job Responsibilities:

The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina is seeking a Zone Maintenance Chief position in the Buildings Division of the Facilities and Engineering Department. 

This position’s primary duties shall include:

  • Supervision of maintenance technicians to perform skilled duties in the routine maintenance and repair of commercial buildings to maintain the integrity and prolong the usable life span of these buildings.
  • Responsible for assigning daily planning and work assignments for the Zone technicians; make sure all are engaged in the maintenance and repair of campus buildings.
  • Maintains contact with building and department representatives and reviews work efforts to ensure good construction practices are being followed/quality standards are being met.
  • Makes recommendations on the repair and maintenance procedures for campus buildings and equipment. Will plan, organize, schedule, monitor and evaluate trade activities.
  • Will assist with compilation of data, prepares reports, summaries and budgets.
  • Responsible for new hire screening process, selects and provides on-the-job training for trades personnel.
  • Assists with the employees’ performance evaluation; assists with the preparation of employee’s performance reports ensuring the reports are accurate, fair and completed in the allowed time frame.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Must have a high school diploma. Applicant should have an extensive background in commercial or residential construction, contract work, remodeling and repairs. Must have at least five (5) years of supervisory experience. Must be skilled in the use of hand, power tools and associated construction equipment. Must be capable of interpreting site plans and blue prints. Incumbent must be skilled with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook or similar programs. Valid South Carolina driver’s license required by the time of employment. Must be customer oriented, able to interface with various levels of personnel from trade workers to Vice Presidents. Must have full use of all extremities and be able to stoop, kneel, bend and work from ladders, scaffolding, roofs and multi structured buildings. Must have the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds a minimum distance of 50 feet and work in confined spaces and in areas that may be poorly ventilated. Work conditions may require working in adverse weather and varying temperatures. Some night and weekend work will be required.
