Tenure Track Assistant or Associate Professor in Sport Management

The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track position in Sport Management at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Health and Human Performance. The anticipated start date is Fall 2027, with the possibility of an earlier start in January 2027, depending on candidate availability and departmental needs.

Founded in 1842 and located in historic Charleston, South Carolina, The Citadel is a coeducational, state-assisted college dedicated to excellence in educating principled leaders. One of seven departments in the Swain Family School of Science and Mathematics, Health and Human Performance offers a B.S. in Sport Management for the South Carolina Corps of Cadets and an online M.A. in Sport Management. The department also offers B.S. degrees in Exercise Science and Strength and Conditioning and an M.S. in Health and Human Performance. The department emphasizes excellent teaching, student mentorship, and applied learning, while supporting faculty scholarship and professional development. The Citadel provides internal funding for faculty research, professional development, and travel, and offers competitive benefits. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with credentials and experience. A 12:1 student-to-faculty ratio and an average undergraduate class size of approximately 20 support close engagement with students.

Position Responsibilities

Teaching

• Teach undergraduate and online graduate courses across the Sport Management curriculum, with assignments based on program needs and the candidate’s expertise.
• Potential teaching areas include Introduction to Sport Management, Sociocultural Aspects of Sport, Sport Law, Leadership in Sport Organizations, International Sport Management, Sport Governance, Sport Communications, internships, and esports.
• Develop new courses and contribute to curriculum review and improvement.

Research and Scholarship

• Maintain scholarly productivity consistent with departmental and college expectations for tenure and promotion.
• Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research and scholarly activities.

Advising Service and Professional Engagement

• Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in their academic and professional development.
• Participate in faculty governance and serve on departmental, school, and college committees.
• Develop and maintain industry partnerships, internship sites, and other experiential learning opportunities for students.

Minimum Qualifiations

An earned doctorate in Sport Management or a closely related field from an accredited institution.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated teaching experience and effectiveness appropriate to the rank sought, with the ability to teach across multiple areas of Sport Management.
• Experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate students and engaging them in research.
• A record of scholarly publications appropriate to the rank sought.
• Experience developing courses and curricula.
• Experience developing or maintaining industry partnerships and internship sites.
