Job Responsibilities:

The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, is seeking an application for the position of Electrician. Under limited supervision, the candidate will perform repairs and preventative maintenance to campus electrical distribution systems, lighting distribution systems and fixtures, motors and related equipment; installs and maintains commercial and residential electrical circuits during new work and renovations; assists shop personnel in installation, setup, and maintenance to campus portable sound and public address systems, including electronic message centers; performs troubleshooting, minor repair, and preventative maintenance of campus fire alarms and security systems; experience with generator and switch gear, continues education on N.E.C. State and local building and electrical codes. Attends safety meetings and participates in full compliance with OSHA electrical safety requirements; among other duties.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

A high school diploma or equivalent and 5 years of experience as an electrician; commercial experience preferred.

Must be capable of reading blue prints, drawings, and electrical schematics. Must be able to show a proficiency in cutting, bending, and installation of electrical conduit. Must be able to work with voltage up to 13.3KV. Must be able to install and repair residential and commercial electrical fixtures in compliance with state and local codes. Must be able to safely operate all mechanical and electrical power tools necessary. Valid SC driver's license required.

Must be able to work on weekends, holidays, and off peak hours, with possible callouts 24 hours a day. Must be capable of lifting 50 lbs waist high and transporting it to a distance of 10 feet. Must be able to work off roofs, scaffolds, ladders, and elevated work platforms up to 150 feet off the ground. Must be able to work in confined and poorly ventilated spaces. Must be able to work in environments of temperature and humidity extremes. Must have the ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. Must have normal color vision and full use of extremities. Must be capable of using different types of personal safety equipment including but not limited to respiratory, hearing, and eye and face protective equipment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Some commercial experience preferred.
