Job Responsibilities

The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina is seeking a Auxiliary Services Lead Maintenance Technician. This position supports the continuous operations of Auxiliary Services facilities and equipment by performing and overseeing complex building and equipment maintenance and repairs. Auxiliary Services facilities include Coward Hall and all dining retail locations, the Barbershop, Bookstore and Marketplace, Cadet Store, Dry-Cleaning and Laundry, Swain Boating Center, Tailor Shop and The Citadel Beach Club. The majority of time is spent supporting Dining Services. This role will has the following responsibilities:

  • Perform facility and system maintenance and repairs.
  • Identify immediate and future repair needs; diagnose system conditions; schedule and perform preventive maintenance and repairs in a timely manner.
  • Inspect and repair equipment, including but not limited to commercial kitchen equipment, dry-cleaning and laundry equipment, and boat lifts.
  • Perform troubleshooting, maintenance, adjustment, and repair of equipment and associated mechanical systems.
  • Repair or replace approved components, including motors, pumps, thermostats, heating elements, sensors, switches, valves, controls, belts, bearings, wiring, and other parts.
  • Test equipment after repairs to ensure safe and proper operation.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, preventative maintenance schedules, work orders, equipment histories, contractor service repair statuses, parts and supplies inventories, and equipment manuals.
  • Track open and closed equipment repairs and reports status, recurring problems, replacement needs, and anticipated future requirements.
  • Monitors and updates work orders in the Web TMA system.
  • Initiate scope of work and oversee contractors performing specialized maintenance and repairs and small construction projects.
  • Coordinates repairs and outages with supervisors, building occupants, contractors and other in-house trades.
  • Ensuring that all repairs are completed, state and local codes are followed, and safety and environmental compliances are met.

Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma AND directly related trades experience. Knowledge of techniques, methods, requirements, and practices used for general facility, commercial kitchen, and industrial plant maintenance. Knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, materials, and equipment used to maintain and repair commercial equipment and systems.

Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and service documentation. Use hand tools, power tools, meters, gauges, test instruments, ladders, lifts, and other maintenance equipment. A valid South Carolina driver’s license is required.

Must have full use of all extremities and be able to stoop, kneel, bend and work from ladders, scaffolding and roofs and platforms at elevations up to 150 feet. Must be capable of lifting 50 lbs. waist high and carry for 15 ft. Must be able to work in environments of temperature and humidity extremes. Must be able to work in confined and poorly ventilated spaces. Work conditions may require working in adverse weather conditions and varying temperatures.

Some overtime, weekend, and holiday work may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience including diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing commercial kitchen equipment and associated mechanical, electrical, plumbing, gas, refrigeration, and control systems is preferred.
