The Citadel hosts 2,300 undergraduate students who make up the South Carolina Corps of Cadets with an additional 1,000 students attending the graduate college through evening and online programs. Position Summary
The Citadel’s Zucker Family School of Education invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Education position specializing in Computer Science (CS) education, beginning August 2026.
Applicants must be prepared to support K-12 teacher candidates preparing to teach computer science and/or integrate computational thinking/computer science into their content area classrooms in South Carolina. We seek candidates with a commitment to working collaboratively with faculty and staff to prepare teacher candidates to primarily teach CS and CS-related content to students from diverse backgrounds. Candidates contributing to our school’s mission are encouraged to identify their experiences in their cover letter.
The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and graduate teacher preparation and computer science programs. Responsibilities may include teaching in the Computer Science endorsement pathway (ex. EDUC 571 - Impacts of Computing), courses in the Department of Cyber and Computer Science (ex. CSCI 201 - Intro to Computer Science I), or other education courses, as well as potentially collaborating with public school partners for practicum and student teacher supervision. There is also an opportunity to collaborate with the STEM Center of Excellence in outreach and research related to computer science education in the state. Candidates must demonstrate a record of, or potential for, scholarly activity, including professional publications and presentations. Additional responsibilities include student mentorship through advising and collaborative undergraduate research and contributions to the life of the department, university, and profession.
Minimum Required Education and Experience
An earned doctorate from an accredited university in teacher education, curriculum and instruction, computer science education, computer science, or related field; an established record of research work in computing and teacher education; demonstrated success as a 6-12 teacher and/or 6-12 certified professional; ability to collaborate with local P-12 school districts; and commitment to preparing professional educators to work in a variety of school environments.
