Assistant Professor of German
The Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at The Citadel invites applications for a tenure-track position in German at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 1, 2026. The specialty is open. We seek an engaged colleague committed to student success and retention, with demonstrated excellence and innovation in teaching German language and cultures to undergraduates.
Qualifications and Responsibilities
The regular teaching load is 4/4, with every effort made to consolidate preparations. Qualified applicants will be prepared to teach German language and culture at all levels, including special topics seminars, and will demonstrate the ability to maintain an active research agenda and engage in service, including program development and recruitment. A Ph.D. is required by the time of appointment. The position requires native or near-native fluency in German and English.

The German Program offers a major and a minor in the undergraduate day program, attended by approximately 2,000 members of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets, as well as Veteran, Active-Duty, and Transfer Students.
