The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, invites applications for a teaching-focused tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, preferably with a background in power and energy systems. Be a part of a close-knit group of engineering educators with a passion for producing innovative engineers that impact the world through principled leadership.
About The Citadel
The Citadel has a rich history and educational reputation. With our location on the banks of the Ashley River in downtown Charleston, you are close to great restaurants, shopping, historic sites, and much more. For 15 years in a row The Citadel has been ranked the #1 Public University in the South, was just named the #1 Best Regional University in the South for the second year in a row, and the #1 Best College for Veterans for 8 years in a row.
At the undergraduate level, we serve two distinct groups of students: members of the Corps of Cadets, who take classes during the day in a military environment, and civilian evening students, who complete their upper division courses at The Citadel. About one in three cadets enter the military upon graduation with the remaining entering the civilian job market or attending graduate school.
About the School of Engineering
As one of the first engineering schools in the nation, The Citadel is a leader in engineering education. It was just ranked #14 nationally for undergraduate engineering programs up to a masters, was selected as a KEEN Partner Campus, and holds bronze level designation in the ASEE Diversity Recognition Program.
About Our Department
The department offers undergraduate degrees in both Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering, as well as a non-thesis MSEE degree (taught in the evenings and online). Faculty in the department teach 9 months full-time each year and typically teach a combination of lecture and lab classes. Class sizes are kept small with seldom more than 15-20 students per section and faculty are rarely required to prepare for more than two lecture courses each term.
Minimum and Additional Requirements:
Minimum qualifications include a BS degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering and a Ph.D. in Electrical or Computer Engineering or a closely related field, which must be completed by the first day of employment. Highly qualified ABD candidates with a clear path to completion will be considered under rare circumstances.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated a potential and interest in engineering education, a commitment to student advising, and continuous professional development. While the primary focus of the position is on teaching, the successful candidate will also be expected to engage in scholarship, either pedagogical or traditional-laboratory research or other collaborative efforts. Securing external research grants is encouraged but not required.
