Job Responsibilities:

The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina is currently accepting applications for The Citadel's History Department, to establish a pool for adjunct faculty assignments. Adjunct assignments may be temporary, part-time and/or on-call and may be immediate or as needed. This job posting is not for a specific assignment or for a full-time faculty position, but rather for a pool of candidates who may be considered for part-time teaching or allied faculty assignments.

Duties may include teaching undergraduate courses or online graduate courses in American History, European History, Military and Diplomatic History, Non-Western History or World Geography. Undergraduate courses are offered during the day in face-to-face or hyflex formats throughout the academic year (fall, spring, and summer); Graduate Courses are offered in the evening or online.  All adjunct positions are part-time, temporary, and per session appointments.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Abiding by and upholding the Citadel’s mission, policies, and core values.  Utilizing effective teaching and learning practices such as presentations, demonstrations, class discussion, and other appropriate modes of instructional delivery; preparing course outlines and syllabi in accordance with program standards and in collaboration with the program coordinator. Completing student assessments required for program completion; hosting weekly office hours; meeting all scheduled class periods. Being available to students for individual consultation; submitting midterm grades for Corps students; recording class absences for Corps students and submitting final grades by the specified due date. The Citadel requires faculty to submit midterm grades for undergraduate students. The Citadel requires faculty to use the Attendance and Class Absence System to document class attendance for undergraduate students.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Master’s Degree in History is required to teach undergraduate history courses and a Master’s Degree in Geography is required to teach undergraduate geography courses. A PhD in History is required to teach graduate history courses and a PhD in Geography is required to teach graduate geography courses. Excellent written and oral communication skills.  Exceptional interpersonal and collaboration skills.  Experience in designing courses and materials for face-to-face and online formats.
