The Citadel’s Zucker Family School of Education invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in Educational Leadership position to be filled by August 2024.  The selected applicant will teach courses in the Zucker Family School of Education’s master’s level program, leading to South Carolina principal certification in elementary and secondary school administration, and its educational specialist program, leading to certification as a superintendent in South Carolina.  Student advisement; service to the Zucker Family School of Education, the college, and the community; and engagement in scholarly research leading to professional publications are also required. Responsibilities will include assisting the Program Coordinator with course scheduling for the division, building relationships with local P-12 schools, and recruiting students to the programs within the division.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

An earned doctorate from an accredited university in educational administration, educational leadership, or a related field; demonstrated success as a P-12 public school administrator at both the school and district levels, ability to use and model technology as an instructional tool; ability to collaborate with local P-12 school districts; commitment to diversity and preparing leaders to work in diverse school environments; and demonstration of or potential for scholarly writing leading to publication.     

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Successful experience as a P-12 superintendent.  Teaching skills that employ a variety of instructional strategies in both face-to-face and online environments, previous experience teaching at the collegiate level, familiarity with accreditation processes in higher education, and experience in the leadership of academic programs.

About the Zucker Family School of Education:

The Zucker Family School of Education is the unit within The Citadel responsible for undergraduate, masters, and specialist programs related to the preparation of educators.  Education alumni include outstanding teachers, literacy specialists, counselors, school administrators, and higher education faculty.  Zucker School faculty pride themselves in providing immersive instruction that connects theory and practice and focuses on the needs of individual students. The Zucker Family School of Education is also home to The Citadel’s STEM Center for Excellence, and the Anita Zucker Institute for Entrepreneurial Educational Leadership. The Zucker Family School of Education is named in honor of Charleston philanthropist Anita Zucker and her family.  In 2014, Mrs. Zucker signed a $4 million gift agreement with The Citadel to elevate the Zucker Family School of Education to national prominence through the development of scholarly and practical tools for improving education and offering direct assistance to area classroom teachers and school leaders. The gift has also positioned the School to be a point of contact in the community for fostering entrepreneurship in education.  In naming the Zucker Family School of Education, The Citadel marked its first school named after a substantial donor.
