Job Responsibilities:

The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina is seeking a (10-month) Academic Coach position in the Student Success Center.  The Academic Coach will work closely with the Assistant Director of the Student Success Center. Will assist with academic and career goal setting, learning strategies, time management and organization, self-regulation, and self-efficacy Conduct academic coaching through individual and group sessions that help students assess their own performance and develop academic skills.  In addition, will also be responsible for the following:

  • Monitors progress of students with check-ins, scheduled meetings or proactive outreach and communication, responding to student questions, concerns, and needs
  • Perform academic advising to reduce risk factors for students.
  • Participate in presentations concerning the Student Success Center and Academic Coaching and provide reports to the Director.


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field with progressive experience in a secondary setting. Must be able to work both day and evening hours. Candidates must have strong analytical and problem solving skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Excellent organizational and record keeping skills. Knowledge of coaching, instructional and mentoring techniques. Knowledge of processes and resources for organizing and leading group and collaborative activities. Knowledge of trends, issues, and accepted practices relevant to position. Must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with a wide range of individuals and constituencies. Ability to balance multiple demands and effectively organize and manage time and tasks.


Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Education, Counseling, or related field applicable to position. Prefer candidate with knowledge and understanding of a military education environment.
