Director of Development, Class Campaigns
 
The Citadel Foundation is a 501c3 that was established to support the efforts of The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina by securing, managing, and stewarding philanthropic support for the institution. The Foundation’s goal is to build a preeminent foundation at The Citadel for tomorrow’s principled leaders.
 
The Citadel is a landmark in the Charleston area and South Carolina at-large that is noted for its educational reputation as well as its rich history. Founded in 1842, The Citadel has an undergraduate student body of about 2,300 students who make up the South Carolina Corps of Cadets. Another 1,000 students attend The Citadel Graduate College, a civilian evening and online program that offers graduate and professional degrees as well as undergraduate programs. The Citadel is best known nationally for its Corps of Cadets, which draws students from about 45 states and a dozen countries. The men and women in the Corps live and study under a classical military system that makes leadership and character development an essential part of the educational experience.
 
Position Summary: This position is a mid-level development position. The Director of Development, Class Campaigns will implement a variety of fundraising programs including major gifts, planned to give, campaign management, and annual giving campaigns. This front-line fundraising position will work with The Foundation and their assigned classes to create and execute a comprehensive reunion campaign strategy. Will manage a portfolio of Citadel alumni reunion classes, and works closely with staff and alumni leaders to recruit, train, and manage.  Will travel frequently over the course of the year to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward top donor prospects and volunteers.
 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
Fundraising
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a range of gifts, including campaign gifts, major gifts, and legacy gifts, to attain milestone reunion campaign goals
  • Manage a portfolio of assigned prospects and establish ongoing relationships with prospects through face-to-face visits, phone calls, and meaningful donor encounters
  • Collaborate with The Citadel Foundation team, Citadel campus partners, and reunion volunteers to develop individual solicitation strategies for top donor prospects and volunteer

Campaign Volunteer Management

  • Recruit, train and manage a committee and representatives from each class
  • Facilitate a 3-year class reunion campaign for a minimum of 3 milestone (25th, 40th, 50th) reunion classes
  • Develop a comprehensive reunion campaign strategy including goal setting, gift pyramid development and lead solicitor planning to meet ambitious reunion campaign goals
  • o Conduct regular communication with reunion campaign volunteers through inperson
  • meetings, conference calls, and email and assist them with crafting and
  • revising various forms of communications.

Other

  • Attend The Citadel Foundation, The Citadel, and Athletic events
  • Support one or more of the CRC program initiatives: Volunteers’ Conference, Giving
  • Day, End of Year Fundraising Appeal, Volunteer Management System, External
  • Marketing & Outreach, Homecoming recognition, Volunteer Workshops
  • Responsible for creating and booking own travel schedule
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education
  • Thorough knowledge of fundraising principles
  • Experience with computer-based software (i.e. word processing and spreadsheet
  • applications)
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to handle the needs of a fast-paced work environment and special needs of donors
  • Ability to lead and motivate others
  • Ability to take primary responsibility for a diverse number of projects and to complete the in a timely manner with limited supervision
  • Ability to create and execute a strategic travel schedule to achieve campaign goals
  • Familiarity with and/or affinity for The Citadel and its mission, including its core values
  • Ability to work some nights and weekends
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
 
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education
  • At least three (3) years of experience in related development/fundraising preferably in higher education
  • Experience with volunteer management
  • Experience with Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge and Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT
  • Experience with GiveCampus (Volunteer Management)
  • Experience with SAP Concur to book, manage, and execute travel along with accompany in expense reporting
