The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, invites applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, preferably with a background in power and energy systems. Come be a part of close knit group of engineering educators with a passion for producing innovative engineers that impact the world through principled leadership.  The School of Engineering was ranked #16 in the 2022 U.S. News and World Report for undergraduate engineering programs up to a masters, was selected as a KEEN Partner Campus, and hold the highest award designation in the ASEE Diversity Recognition Program.

The Citadel’s ECE department offers undergraduate degrees in both Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering as well as a non-thesis MSEE degree.  There are two distinct groups of undergraduate students: members of the Corps of Cadets, who take classes during the day in a military environment, and civilian evening students, who complete their upper division courses at The Citadel.  There is also a sizable active duty and veteran cohort.  The MSEE program is also taught in the evenings and online.

Located in beautiful and historic Charleston, South Carolina, The Citadel, ranked the #1 Public College in the South by the U.S. News and World Report for 12 years in a row, is a distinctive institution that offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in the humanities, business, math, science, engineering, and education. With an enrollment of more than 2100, the Corps of Cadets is the nation’s largest military college program outside the service academies. All cadets are educated within a classic military system, and about 35 percent of the graduating seniors earn military commissions. The remaining graduates attend graduate school or enter the job market.

The academic programs at the college are complemented by a strong commitment to service, scholarly endeavors and emphatic support of an honor code that calls upon a student not to lie, cheat, steal, or tolerate those who do. Minimum and Additional Requirements:

Minimum qualifications include a degree from an institution offering an ABET-accredited B.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering and a Ph.D. in Electrical or Computer Engineering or a closely related field. The successful candidate will have demonstrated a potential and interest in undergraduate and graduate education, a strong potential for and commitment to student advising, and continuous professional development in both engineering and engineering education. While the primary focus of the position is on teaching, the successful candidate will be expected to engage in scholarship, either pedagogical or traditional-laboratory research or other collaborative efforts. The applicant must be an effective communicator and be able to serve as a role model for students in the Corps of Cadets and other students in our day and evening programs.

Preferred Qualifications:

Applicants at the assistant or associate professor level are preferred, but more experienced candidates will be considered. Preferred areas of interest include power and energy systems, smart grid, and renewable energy, but all qualified candidates are encouraged to apply. Professional registration or interest in obtaining it is preferred.
