Job Responsibilities:

The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina invites qualified individuals to apply for a Laboratory Technician position.  This position is responsible for planning and administering day-to-day operations of the mechanical engineering laboratories and supporting other related building facilities and educational program initiatives, located on The Citadel’s campus. In addition, this role is responsible for the following:

  • Procures, stocks and records required inventory of Mechanical Engineering components, equipment, manuals and associated software.
  • Perform routine maintenance, as required, and repairs for all assigned laboratory equipment and supplies. Coordinate fabrication/construction and installation of laboratory equipment and testing apparatus as needed.
  • Plan and perform layout and setup of laboratory equipment and provide technical consultation for all mechanical engineering laboratory courses.
  • Ensure equipment is functioning properly and is available, along with necessary components needed for laboratory exercises and special projects, for faculty and student use.
  • Dismantle and store equipment after laboratory exercises, experiments and special student projects, as required, and manage laboratory cleanup with custodial services
  • Work with the Department Head to ensure compliance with The Citadel Safety Policies including but not limited to disposal of hazardous material and compliance with Department Chemical Hygiene Plan.


Minimum Qualifications:

Must have an Associate’s Degree OR equivalent technical training. Bachelor of Science degree in science or engineering, or related field, can be substituted for experience.  Must have previous lab experience.  The successful candidate will have demonstrated an interest in working collaboratively with others who are committed to developing principled engineering leaders, a strong potential for and commitment to advising and mentoring undergraduate engineering students.


Preferred Qualifications:

A wide range of electrical, electronic, and mechanical skills is preferred.
