The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, seeks a Director of The Career Center.  This position will report directly to the Executive Director of Student Affairs and Academic Services, under The Office of the Provost.   The Director of The Career Center will be responsible for providing strategic leadership for employer relations, experiential professional development, and career education.  Responsibilities of this position include the following:

Leading The Citadel Career Center

  • •Provides leadership, team building, and professional development to the Career Center’s professional staff and support staff.
  • •Oversees the Career Center’s budget.
  • •Provides leadership and strategy for the overall career and employer-related programs designed and offered by the college to enhance professional development and career competencies of students.
  • •Provides leadership to each of the college's five schools (Humanities and Social Sciences, Science and Math, Business, Engineering, and Education) to engage employers, alumni, mentors, and advisory boards in student professional development through internships, workshops, and an effective recruiting program.
  • •Oversees Career Services' strategic planning efforts, annual goal-setting, development, and coordination of assessment efforts; coordinates the preparation of departmental reports and articulates outcomes to internal and external constituents.
  • •Serves as the leading voice on campus for the promotion and engagement of student career development. Serves on college-wide governance committees responsible for The Citadel's four-year Leadership Development model and enrollment management.

 Leading Employer Relations and Fosters External Career Related Relationships

  • •Represents The Citadel in the most positive manner and serves as the primary liaison with current and prospective employers, graduate programs, former and current students, economic development efforts in- and out-of-state and community agencies. Interacts effectively with a diverse group of faculty, staff, and students.
  • •Fosters alumni involvement in the professional development of Citadel undergraduate and graduate students by expanding recruiting, networking, and mentoring activities designed to meet changing needs in a dynamic global economy.

Leading Reporting, Communication, and Assessment Efforts Related to Career Services

  • •Works collaboratively with campus partners, including departments and Institutional Research to assess, track and report First- Destination data that illustrates the value of The Citadel's degree and leadership development model in preparing students for the careers they desire and deserve.
  • •Works collaboratively across the college to ensure that career development services, programs, resources, and initiatives are effective, innovative, and aligned with College and campus life priorities through effective assessment.
  • •Establishes a strategic direction for the implementation of emerging technologies that enhance the accessibility of career development and student employment services.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree required in related field (MBA, Student Counseling, Higher Ed, Organizational, Human Resources)
  • Progressive experience in recruiting, employment assistance, career services, student advisement or related field 
  • Progressive experience in a management or supervisory role leading and developing staff 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Full-time experience on a college/university student services staff is preferred.
  • Important knowledge and capabilities necessary include career counseling techniques, knowledge of job trends and career development skills, effective public relations and networking abilities, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • An understanding of the principles of college student development and the policies and structure of a typical four-year, public university is preferred.
