Job Purpose

The GA in academic and student affairs will enhance the academic support and student services missions of the departments and provide the graduate student opportunities to build skills and abilities that complement his or her degree program and gain experience to advance his or her career goals.

Personal Characteristics (Desired)

  • Current Citadel graduate student pursuing a degree in English, Student Affairs, Higher Education, Counseling, Psychology, or other relevant degree program
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with, or ability to learn, publishing and website editing software
  • High attention to detail and personal responsibility for completion of assigned tasks
  • Understanding of and ability to follow FERPA guidelines
  • Ethical reasoning skills; emotional intelligence; positive and friendly disposition
  • Completion of, or willingness to attend, diversity, equity, and inclusion training
  • Prior experience relative to job functions

Job Functions

  • Attend required training
  • Write copy for, and update, the websites for the academic and student affairs departments and CSI
  • Serve as first point of contact for students entering the office: provide basic curricular or academic advice or refer the student to the appropriate academic or student affairs support person in the office or on campus
  • Edit and/or write copy for the catalog revision process and transition to electronic catalog
  • Provide Special Orders support and record keeping
  • Assist with communications and correspondence
  • Assist with event management for department events and workshops (e.g., NCBI, student program meetings, advisor training, graduation alumni, etc.)
  • Publicize student and faculty programs across campus; assist with early recruiting for CSI
  • Write copy for a quarterly academic and student affairs newsletter targeted at faculty and advisors
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Performance Review

The supervisor will review with the GA his/her job performance vs. expectations at least twice per semester.
