Job Responsibilities:

The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina is accepting applicants for a HVAC Technician in the Facilities and Engineering Department.  This position is responsible for the following:

  • Repair maintenance of all campus Mechanical, Air Conditioning, Heating, & Ventilation systems and refrigeration equipment, ice machines, walk-in cooler & freezers, kitchen equipment, dishwasher & cooking equipment, & computerized energy management systems. 
  • Performs Preventive Maintenance on all HVAC and auxiliary equipment. 
  • Assists in making repairs to all air conditioning and chiller systems; chill water pumps and cooling to water pumps, cooling towers, hot water, and steam heating systems, mechanical systems and associated equipment. 
  • Responsible for operating energy management systems; as well as works on low and high voltage control systems which are parts of HVAC equipment.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Must have a high school diploma and four(4) years of experience in mechanical trades field or four years in the Mechanical/Electrical trades area. Must be certified in Refrigerant Transition & Recovery.

Knowledge required in the operation and maintenance of: industrial rotary screw, centrifugal and ice storage, chilled water systems ranging from 100 to 350 tons; hot water and steam heating systems; commercial and residential refrigerant, split air conditioning systems, gas package unit heaters and heat pumps ranging from 1.5 to 120 tons; residential gas appliances; refrigerant equipment, and other auxiliary equipment including but not limited to commercial galley and kitchen equipment. Must be capable of: reading blue prints, drawings, and electrical schematics and be able to demonstrate a proficiency at brazing and soldering of piping and tubing. Must understand and repair chemical feed pumps. Take water sample of PH levels. Add chemical as needed. Have open communication skills. Continuing education of CFC refrigerants and future alternatives and safety standard.

Work independently or as a team, with limited supervision, using oral or written instructions.  Work conditions subject to 24 hour emergency callout on evenings, weekends, and holidays, including extreme weather and climatic conditions of humidity, heat and cold. Must be capable of: repetitively lifting objects weighing 50 pounds to waist height and transporting a distance of 10 feet; working off roofs, scaffolds, ladders and platforms at high elevations up to 100 feet off of the ground.
