Faculty Position as Visiting Assistant Professor and Alvah H. Chapman, Jr. Chair in Management and Ethics

The Citadel’s Tommy & Victoria Baker School of Business in Charleston, South Carolina is expanding. We have a new name, innovative new academic programs, and a new building we will occupy in 2020. We are looking for a well-qualified person who will join our historic institution and become part of a dedicated community educating and developing principled leaders to serve in all walks of life.

Job Responsibilities:

The School of Business invites you to apply for a non-tenure track position to serve as Visiting Assistant Professor and Alvah H. Chapman, Jr. Chair in Management and Ethics. The focus of this position is developing ethical leaders for service to the military and civilian organizations. This is a full-time contract position that will begin in August 2020, continuing for a period of three years with the possibility of renewing thereafter.

The successful candidate will serve in the Management and Entrepreneurship Department, teaching courses at the undergraduate and possibly graduate levels through face-to-face and online delivery modes. Faculty within the School of Business are expected to teach the equivalent of a 3+3 course load, and to engage in research relevant to one’s academic field and in service appropriate to the position’s level.

Minimum Requirements:

Applicants must have:

  • A master's degree from an accredited university in management or related discipline (doctoral degree preferred).
  • Relevant management or executive experience in an industry, the military, or other organizational context.

The position requires prior academic preparation and ability to develop and teach management and related courses at the undergraduate  level. The ability to teach graduate courses is preferred.  Such preparation and ability includes, but is not limited to, the necessary skills and motivation to teach face-to-face and to teach online or otherwise to become proficient in the technologies for teaching online.

Salary will be competitive for the position based on nine months per year, and will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications. There is also a potential for teaching additional courses during summer months.

Preferred Qualifications: 

Doctoral degree in a relevant discipline

Academic preparation for and ability to teach ethical business principles applied through innovative management approaches that achieve social responsibility to stakeholders and sustainable stewardship of resources.

Experience in higher education and proven effectiveness in teaching, research, and service.

Experience using a learning management system (LMS).
